Alternative Energy Solutions


The oil’s running out. The clock is ticking. We need new sources of energy. Wind Power, Solar Power, Geothermal Power -- enter a world of innovation, imagination, and learning. You’ll use the Engineering Design Process to design, create, test, and refine basic solutions related to alternative energy and environmental issues. Many different engineering disciplines are required to come up with best solutions, including Environmental, Civil, Chemical, and Industrial Engineering. Houston, the Energy Capital of the World, is counting on budding Engineers like yourself to create your own hands-on solutions to pipelines, oil spills, water turbines, wind turbines, and conservation of heat energy, as you learn what these different types of Engineers do. So roll up your sleeves, put your mind to the problem, and maybe you’ll create the world’s answer to dwindling oil reserves.

Age Group

6th Grade to 9th Grade (Ages 11 to 14)

Who will like this Course?

Children who have a passion for the technological wonders present in the world around them. Activities include building and designing various structures and devices.

Recommended Prerequisites

An active imagination and an eye for detail.
